Climate

The Mornington Peninsula is a true maritime climate, surrounded by three bodies of water; Port Phillip Bay to the west, Western Port Bay to the east and Bass Strait to the south. The prevailing southerly winds that originate from the cool Southern Ocean are the major cooling influence across most of southern Victoria.

The difference on the Mornington Peninsula is the cooling effect from the surrounding water bodies which moderate extremes in temperature. On hot summer days, daytime maximum temperatures are significantly lower.

Our site has a south easterly aspect and a gentle slope that faces Western Port Bay just two kilometres away. On warm and hot days, a cool sea breeze blows off the water. This significantly influences the microclimate and fruit ripening, preserving freshness and natural acidity.
